While Crassula barklyi is also known as “Rattlesnake Tail” and “Bandaged Finger” (no joke!), these little compact towers are definitely not dangerous. These are very slow growing, and they send up lots of branches from the base so eventually you get a cluster. They stay pretty short (max 4″), and occasionally produce a flower from the top of the stem. The flowers smell AMAZING you guys. It is monocarpic, so the stem that made the flower does die, but it will leave you with plenty of offsets so you won’t lose it from your collection. Originates from Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland.

These can handle a wide range of light levels, from mostly shade to mostly sun.

Size
2″ pot

Soil
Use a very well draining soil mix. Store bought cactus and succulent mix often retains too much water. You can add gritty materials like pumice, lava rock, or perlite to loosen it up and improve drainage. Your mix should be at least half gritty ingredients. Use a pot with drain holes so the soil can dry out.

Water
Soak your plants thoroughly, then let them dry out completely before watering again. Frequency will depend on your climate. Check for dryness by sticking your finger into the top of the soil, or looking into the drain holes at the bottom of the pot.

Bare Root Shipping
Most of our plants ship bare root to save on shipping cost. This means the plant will not include a pot or soil. Some plants are shipped in the pot to avoid damage.
